Join Grammar Productions and special guests for a screening of the short film Forgotten Allies followed by a Q&A with award-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Bescoby.
Synopsis: 'In the darkest hours of World War Two, thousands of men from Burma (now Myanmar) gave their lives fighting a brutal war for Britain against the Japanese, and to carry out the most successful guerrilla campaign of the war. But after the Allied victory, Burma sank into isolation, dictatorship and civil war, and Britain forgot the bravery of these men. Now only a handful of veterans remain - will they get the recognition they deserve before it's too late? One determined band of Brits are in a battle against time to make sure they do.'
You can watch the film trailer here.
Forgotten Allies has a special connection to Norwich School via Old Norvicensian Hugh Seagrim, GC, DSO, MBE (24 March 1909 – 22 September 1944), a British Indian Army officer notable for his leadership of Karen rebels in fighting Japanese invaders in Burma during the Second World War. Seagrim’s valiant deeds form an integral part of the Forgotten Allies story.
The film screening will help raise money for Help 4 Forgotten Allies (H4FA), who provide financial and practical support to veterans of WWII living in Burma/Myanmar. H4FA is the chosen Seagrim House charity, with Housemaster Andrew Curtis serving as a trustee.
